Details:
Islamic spirituality is probably one of the most misunderstood and controversial aspects of traditional Islam. Most do not understand that while it may not have been referred to as “Sufism” in the past, it most definitely existed throughout Islamic history as the path to achieving spiritual excellence and nearness to God.

Dr. Sherman Jackson’s book Sufism for Non-Sufis—a translation of the 13th century Ibn ‘Ata’ Allah al-Sakandari’s Taj al-‘Arus—helps to bridge this gap in understanding and correcting controversies surrounding Sufism. Using this book, this course will unveil Islam’s tradition of spiritual refinement, purification, and journeying to God. Included are accompanying lectures and discussions on aligning our marital, family and communal relationships with our relationship to God.

Watch an interview of Dr. Jackson about his book, “Sufism for Non-Sufis,” by Usama Canon of Ta’leef Collective: www.vimeo.com/48099438
Usama Canon interviews Dr. Sherman Jackson about his book, “Sufism for Non-Sufis,” where he discusses the need for the Muslim community to address the issues surrounding rectifying and reforming our character. Dr. Jackson contends that unless we confront the issues surrounding the refinement of the self and obedience to Allah, that very little will change in our individual or collective body.
